Mojang Studios, behind the massively popular game Minecraft, are uniting with the BBC on a newly launched Minecraft Education project influenced by the Planet Earth 3 series. From January 16, Minecraft Education Edition players can start experiencing a world inspired by the renowned British nature documentary. They'll get the chance to experience new environments and portray different animals such as the great white shark, the arctic wolf, and the musk ox, among others.
At the starting point, the BBC Planet Earth 3 Field Station, players can choose from various environmental systems to learn about the respective fauna and participate in custom-made activities. Besides the learning opportunity, there are also unlockable rewards and challenges to enhance the gameplay and the possibility of switching perspectives amongst different animals within the wilderness.
The new Planet Earth 3-inspired Minecraft World is accessible at no cost via the Minecraft Education or the Minecraft Marketplace. This new development is a follow-up to the record-breaking Frozen Planet 2 Minecraft Worlds which debuted in 2022. Minecraft Education announces its joy in continuing the collaboration with BBC Earth, aiming to bring players a step closer to the natural habitat and creatures across the continents.
The previous add-on content made history by getting the highest number of downloads for an educational game in a single day, attracting players across 116 countries. Pleased with this achievement, the BBC and Mojang are now embarking on a fresh project together. Matt Brandon, the series producer for Planet Earth 3, underlines the opportunity it offers for children worldwide to engage with contents inspired by Planet Earth 3, while learning more about our delicate natural universe and its inhabitants.
In other news, Mojang has turned the page on Minecraft Legends with its last update, as the development team redirects its focus on brand new projects.
