Recent statements from Funcom reveal that the process of adapting Dune Awakening for the Xbox Series S is ongoing, although it presents certain difficulties. The massively multiplayer online game, inspired by Frank Herbert's renowned Dune series, is scheduled for a PC release in early 2025, but no specific timeline for the console versions has been announced.
Scott Junior, the chief product officer for Dune Awakening, indicated that a key factor behind the decision to prioritize the PC version first is the need to focus on making enhancements for the Xbox version, particularly the less powerful Xbox Series S. He emphasized the challenge this particular console poses.
In a recent conversation with VG247, Junior mentioned the importance of optimization before launching on Xbox platforms. Despite these complexities, he reassured prospective players that those with an Xbox Series S will indeed have the opportunity to experience Dune Awakening.
He affirmed the game's performance capabilities by stating that it would still function effectively on older hardware, demonstrating confidence in the team’s ability to optimize the experience. Dune Awakening is developed using Unreal Engine 5, and a new gameplay trailer unveiled at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024 showcased intricate elements like the character creator and the expansive world of Arrakis.
Players will have the chance to join various guilds, choosing to align with either House Harkonnen or Atreides, and engage in guild versus guild conflicts over the valuable spice, featuring an array of vehicles, technologies, and specialized fighters within the game.
